Prof Savaranamuthu Vigneswaran

Prof. S. Vigneswaran is currently an Emeritus Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and a Research Professor at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Oslo. He was Distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) till December 2021. He obtained his Doctor of Engineering and Dr.Sc from University of Montpellier and University of Paul Sabatier, Toulouse respectively. During the last twenty-five years, Vigneswaran has made significant contributions to the understanding of membrane systems in water reuse and desalination and currently he has several national and international projects in this area. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the International Water Association (IWA) and was the Vice-Chair of the IWA’s specialist group on membrane technology. He obtained IWA Project Innovation Awards in the Applied Research category (Honour Award) three consecutive times, IWA Development Honour Award in 2019 and Kamal Fernando mentor award in 2018.  He was also named as World’s top 25 water researchers (http://www.luxresearchinc.com/) in 2013 and winner of Google Impact Challenge Technology against Poverty Prize, 2017.

Presently, he is working on projects related to resource recovery and water reclamation (Australian Research Council Research Hub and Australian Indian-Strategic Research Funding (Awarded by Australian Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources).

Prior to joining University of Technology Sydney (UTS), he worked at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok for 10 years as the Head and Associate/Assistant Professor where he was involved worked on a number of international projects funded by FAO, WHO, UNDP, etc.
